What is the Entry of Appearance?

Entry of Appearance is a legal form that tells the Court and other parties that the respondent is participating in the case. This form also lets the court know whether you want the case decided by the Jury and the judge or the Judge. Your name and address are included in the form so that other parties involved in the case can reach you.

When do I use this form?

This form is used in most of civil cases. In case, someone sues you and you want to participate in the court case, you need to file an Entry of Appearance form to the court. Without this form, you cannot participate in the case and the court may go ahead in the case without you.
Also, if your lawyer stops representing your case and you are going to represent yourself in the Court, then you need to file an Entry of Appearance. But, you do not need to file this if you are starting a new case without a lawyer.


What do I need to know before filing an Entry of Appearance?

To complete the filing process, you will need to know:

  • The names and addresses of the parties.
  • The court case number; AND
  • If the other parties have a lawyer.
